I don't know if this will make people flail, or not. I don't think it's a very offensive concept. There's NO reason to kill for a religion that is meant to promote peace and unity, and it, quite frankly, is very contradicting.
Many people of faith wish for others to respect them, and they don't understand that despite what most people say, i.e. 'Don't judge me for the idiots', it's only natural to look down upon something when it's the idiots that are the ones being given the most attention.

But killing people who don't believe in what you believe helps ensure that your belief is the one that gets spread and enforced. And if you kill all the other people who don't believe in what you believe, you destroy that belief that went against yours! So there is a very good reason to kill for religion. It can be used to effectively wipe out other religions that might be conflicting with yours.
